Cook Mode on your phone

Cooking from a phone used to mean scrolling past ingredients every time you needed the next step. There's a better option now.

Open a recipe on mobile and tap Cook Mode in the bottom bar. You get a focused sheet: ingredients you can scroll and check off, with the next step stuck at the bottom so it stays in reach.

You can still scale servings from there. Your screen also tries to stay awake while Cook Mode is open, so it doesn't dim mid-sauce.

Recipes look a bit better

Recipe pages got a layout pass alongside Cook Mode. On desktop, they now open like a book: ingredients on one side, method on the other. There are a few other small visual tweaks too. Nothing worth a full list, but the page should feel a bit cleaner overall.

Grocery list: optional and hide

Optional ingredients no longer live in a separate Maybe section. They stay on the main list with the rest of your items, marked with a small Optional tag so you can decide at the store whether you need them.

If something keeps showing up and you never buy it, you can now hide it. Tap the eye on an item, and that item drops into the Hidden section. Future lists won't put it back in To Buy.

Sync got faster

Signing in syncs Cookbook between your devices. That path got some speed work this update. It ran through a private folder in your Google Drive at the time; since 23 September 2026 it runs through Lyfify Cloud.

Sync should feel quicker when you haven't changed much. Cookbook skips work it doesn't need to redo, so signing in or coming back to the app shouldn't sit on a spinner as long. The first sync after this update might still take a moment. After that, everyday syncs should feel lighter.
