Shop Ahead of Your Grocery Window

Step forward to next week's grocery list before next week starts, tick things off there as you shop, and let it become the current list when the window rolls over.

The problem with shopping on Sunday

Say your grocery list runs Monday to Sunday. You shop on Monday, tick everything off, and you are set for the week.

Then Sunday comes around and you go shopping again. Except the list on screen is still Monday's, fully ticked off, with nothing left on it. The list for the week you are actually buying for does not exist yet. It shows up on Monday morning, a few hours after you got home from the shop.

That is backwards. Almost nobody shops on the first morning of the week they are shopping for.

Two lists, one arrow

There are now arrows either side of the date range at the top of Groceries. Tap the right one and you are on the next window's list, built from your meal plan the same way as always. Tap the left one to come back.

Both lists are real, and both keep their own ticked items. You can shop for next week on Sunday evening, tick things off as you go, and switch back to this week without losing anything. When the window does roll over, the list you already started simply becomes the current one. Nothing to redo.

Anything you did not get around to buying comes with you when the next list starts, same as it always has.

You can see what you added

Items you typed in yourself now carry a small pencil beside the name. At a glance you can tell which lines came from your meal plan and which are yours, which matters more than it sounds when the two sit side by side in the same category.

And a pile of fixes

A long list of bug fixes went out alongside this, across syncing, the meal plan, and the grocery list itself. None of them are worth writing up on their own. The app should just feel steadier than it did last week.
