Your recipes should help you plan dinner
A recipe collection can end up scattered across browser bookmarks, screenshots, notes, cookbooks, and messages from family. You know the recipe exists. Finding it when you need dinner is the hard part.
Lyfify Cookbook is a free cookbook app that gives those recipes a useful home. Save what you cook, put it into a repeating meal plan, and let that plan build your grocery list. Instead of managing three separate apps, you can move from "What should we eat?" to a checked-off shopping list in one place.
That connection matters. A digital cookbook that only stores recipes solves the filing problem. It does not solve the weekly work of choosing meals, checking ingredients, and remembering what to buy.
A free recipe organizer app for the food you make
You can add recipes by hand and keep the details that matter to you: ingredients, steps, servings, cooking time, tags, photos, notes, nutrition, and ingredient substitutes.
If you already have recipes in notes, messages, screenshots, or cookbooks, Smart Add can turn them into a draft:
- Paste the recipe text.
- Photograph a recipe card, cookbook page, or ingredient list.
Smart Add is a hosted AI feature. After you sign in, the first monthly Basic checkout can include a free month; after that it needs a plan. You review the title, ingredients, and steps before the draft enters your cookbook. Adding recipes by hand stays free and does not need AI.
You can also grow your library inside Lyfify: save recipes from Discover, or open a recipe someone shared with you and keep your own editable copy.
Once recipes are in your recipe library, search and tags help you get back to them. You can star favorites, switch between list and grid views, and keep a photo with each recipe. Your recipe organizer reflects what you cook. You do not have to scroll through a recommendation feed to find your own food.
Plan meals without starting over each week
Many meal planning apps assume you want a new menu every Sunday. That can create another task: fill seven days, find 20+ recipes, and repeat the same decisions next week.
Lyfify supports meal plans with repeating cycles from one to four weeks. Add the dinners your household already likes, move them between days, and let the cycle come around again. You can still change a meal when plans shift.
Each plan can use a default serving count, while a single meal can override it. That helps if you cook for two most nights and host family on Friday. The recipe and grocery quantities follow the servings you choose.
You can also ask Smart Fill to draft empty slots from recipes you already saved. Give it instructions such as "quick meals on weekdays" or "use the vegetarian recipes first," then review the result before saving it.
Open Meal Plans to build a schedule that matches your real week.
Get a grocery list from your meal plan
Copying ingredients from recipes into a shopping list wastes time and creates mistakes. Lyfify builds the grocery list from your active meal plan, using the recipes and servings assigned to each slot.
The list combines matching ingredients, keeps optional items visible, and follows the substitute you selected on a recipe. If a dish says "olive oil or butter," your choice decides what goes onto the list.
You can sort items into grocery aisles and Lyfify remembers where you placed them. Hide staples or ingredients you do not want to buy, then check off the rest while you shop. Smart Sort can also condense, translate, and organize the list when you choose to run it.
Cook from your phone without losing your place
Recipe sites often make you fight the page while your hands are busy. Long introductions, small text, and a screen that dims halfway through a step all get in the way.
Open Cook Mode from a recipe on your phone for a focused cooking view. Check ingredients as you use them, scale the servings, and keep the next instruction near the bottom of the screen. Lyfify also asks your device to keep the screen awake while Cook Mode is open.
On a larger screen, the recipe page puts ingredients and instructions side by side. You can use the same cookbook from a phone, tablet, or computer without changing how your recipes are organized.
One cookbook for recipes, meals, and groceries
Lyfify works as a meal planning and grocery list app because the three parts use the same information.
| What you need to do | Where Lyfify helps | | --- | --- | | Save family recipes and online finds | A private, searchable recipe library | | Decide what to cook this week | Repeating meal plans with flexible servings | | Work out what to buy | A grocery list generated from the active plan | | Follow a recipe from your phone | Cook Mode with ingredients and the next step in reach |
Use a cookbook app without giving up your recipe collection
Lyfify stores your Cookbook data on the device you use. You can start without an account, and Lyfify does not show ads.
If you want the same recipes on more than one device, sign in to turn on sync. Your recipes, meal plans, grocery lists and uploaded photos go to Lyfify Cloud, sealed with a key belonging to your account. They stay on your device too, so the app keeps working offline.
Sharing follows the same approach. A shared recipe is an anonymous snapshot carried in the link. It has no connection to your account or a public profile. The person receiving it can read the recipe and save a separate copy. They do not get access to your cookbook.
Choose when AI runs
The core cookbook, meal planner, and grocery tools work without an AI subscription. AI features run only when you start them.
Current AI shortcuts can:
- Smart Add: turn recipe text or a photo into a draft
- Smart Fill: fill meal-plan slots from your own recipes
- Smart Sort: automatically organize a grocery list into aisles or categories
- Adapt Recipe: adapt a saved recipe for a request such as "make this higher in protein"
- Estimate Nutrition: estimate nutrition for a recipe
You review AI suggestions before saving them. Hosted AI needs a plan; the first monthly Basic checkout can include a free month. You can leave AI unused and still cook from recipes you add by hand.
How Lyfify compares to other ways of keeping recipes
Most home cooks already have a system. The question is whether that system helps with dinner and shopping, or only with filing.
| Approach | What works | Where it usually breaks | | --- | --- | --- | | Browser bookmarks and phone screenshots | Fast to save | Hard to search later; no meal plan; no grocery list | | A recipe book or notes app | Your recipes in one place | You still rebuild the week and shopping list by hand | | A meal planner with weak recipe storage | Calendar-style planning | Recipes live elsewhere, making planning tedious | | Separate recipe, planner, and shopping apps | Each tool is focused | You re-enter the same meals and ingredients in three places | | Lyfify Cookbook | Recipes, repeating meal plans, and a grocery list that share one library | You tell us :) |
Lyfify is built for the gap between "I saved the recipe" and "I know what to cook and buy this week." If you only need a pretty recipe reader, a simpler app may be enough. If your saved recipes should drive the plan and the shopping list, one connected cookbook is the point.
Privacy is another split. Many recipe apps keep your library on their servers. Lyfify keeps Cookbook data on your device first, and signing in is optional. What syncs is sealed with a key belonging to your account, and the Privacy Policy says plainly what that does and does not protect.
Is Lyfify the right free cookbook app for you?
Lyfify fits cooks who want their recipe manager, meal planner, and grocery list to work together. It can help if you:
- keep losing recipes in bookmarks and screenshots
- repeat many of the same dinners but still plan each week from scratch
- copy recipe ingredients into a separate shopping app
- want a private recipe app without ads
- want optional AI functionality without making AI part of every task
Lyfify also works as just a place to store your recipes, but it works best when you want saved recipes to shape the rest of your week.
